Nathan Fillion has been “attached” to big comic book movie roles such as Booster Gold and Green Lantern for years. Now, fans of the Firefly actor finally get their wish (sort of) as Fillion has just been cast in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
This comes from Deadline, who reports that Fillion’s role in The Suicide Squad “is being kept under wraps”. While we don’t know who Fillion will play in the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel/reboot, that certainly won’t stop DC fans from theorizing online. While it would be amazing to see Fillion capture a major role in the film, there is always the chance that this is just a minor part. The actor has done previous work for director James Gunn in the past with providing his voice for a lesser role in the hit MCU film, Guardians of the Galaxy.
Let’s not forget what happened when the first Suicide Squad movie was on its way into theaters. Fans speculated that Scott Eastwood’s character would be revealed to be Deathstroke or maybe even a version of Dick Grayson/Nightwing. Instead, Eastwood had a secondary part to play in the story as GQ Edwards, a Lieutenant under Rick Flag’s command. Still, it’s fun to speculate and maybe Fillion has finally secured a big comic book movie role.
However, Nathan Fillion was not the only recent addition to the cast of The Suicide Squad. Deadline recently revealed that comedian Steve Agee (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, New Girl), would voice King Shark. The last iteration of the character was seen on The Flash and is actually voiced by Metal Gear Solid’s David Hayter in the hit CW series.
The Suicide Squad is currently set to hit theaters on August 6th, 2021.
