NBC will air a tribute special for Betty White. The Hollywood Reporter says that Celebrating Betty White: America’s Golden Girl will air at 10 P.M. on January 31. This hour-long special will feature friends and costars paying honor to the late actress who died on New Year’s Eve 2021 at the age of 99.
Along with tributes from friends and fellow stars, Celebrating Betty White will feature clips from White’s career that shows her comic timing and irreverent tone. Some of those clips will include scenes from The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Golden Girls, and Hot in Cleveland. Brad Lachman will produce the special along with Bill Bracken. Lachman has produced two previous specials celebrating White’s life and career.
White’s died peacefully at her Brentwood home on New Year’s Eve. She was a mere 17 days away from her 100th birthday. Deadline says that her death brought in tributes from the entertainment industry and beyond. Even President Joe Biden and former first lady Michelle Obama paid honor to White.
White’s death has brought in several tributes from the entertainment industry. The day after her death, Saturday Night Live honored her by airing an episode she hosted back in 2010 at the age of 88. She was the oldest person ever to host the weekly late-night sketch comedy.
White’s career spanned nearly seven decades with 115 acting credits to her name. While she had several memorable roles in her career, she will most be remembered for her role as the dimwitted but lovable Rose on The Golden Girls, where she acted alongside Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty. White was the last living member of the main cast until her death.
