EA has officially revealed the next entry in the Need For Speed franchise, and the sequel seems to have more personality than ever before. Need for Speed Unbound got a new trailer that featured the rapper A$AP Rocky in-game along with an original song. EA also confirmed that Need For Speed Unbound will be coming on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, on December 2, just like the leaks suggested. With a more extensive scope in mind, it seems last-gen consoles had to be left in the dust, understandably so.
The trailer’s description reads:
“Race against time, outsmart the cops, and take on weekly qualifiers to reach The Grand, Lakeshore’s ultimate street racing challenge. Pack your garage with precision-tuned, custom rides and light up the streets with your style, exclusive fits, and a vibrant global soundtrack that bumps in every corner of the world.”
Need For Speed Unbound’s New Style
The trailer for the game shows off an in-game anime-style A$AP Rocky along with some other characters in the same style. The game screams underground racing along with the urban anime aesthetic. The cops are making a comeback with some furious high-speed chases and roadblocks. Most Wanted and Underground fans may rejoice.
Leaks had already confirmed ahead of the official announcement that the game would have an anime-inspired visual style, along with the fact that Need For Speed Unbound wouldn’t be gracing last-gen consoles. The game’s launch date was also floating around, and EA definitely noticed the leaks and perhaps decided that they’d reveal the trailer a bit earlier than originally planned.
The original A$AP Rocky song in the trailer can be found here. It seems that the design language in Need For Speed Unbound will separate it from other racing games, something the franchise needed. The neon-lit streets with over-the-top racing cars zipping through bustling roads and cops will be a gift to long-time fans of the Need For Speed series. The recent free weekend for Need For Speed Heat saw the biggest numbers the game has had in a long time, and that was setting up for the sequel’s reveal.
More details about Need For Speed Unbound will be revealed at 8 AM PT/11 AM ET/4 PM BST. Here’s to hoping Need For Speed gets back what it has lost for so long, personality!
