In a world full of people who say they don’t follow politics, it’s refreshing to see people who are politically aware. This is especially true when it involves our own parents. Far too often, older generations fail to keep up with what’s going on in the news. Because of this, it’s possible they sometimes lose that sense of empathy and awareness we all strive for. But one Florida mom is showing that she’s still on the up-and-up when it comes to modern politics. Before a girl’s night out, she decides to share her opinions with her daughter.
TikToker @stilleaworkinprogress shared a TikTok video of her mom talking politics before a night out on the town. Her video was hilariously captioned, “Me: It’s ladies’ night, don’t say anything political.” Her mom starts ranting to her about how the U.S. has to get its hands in every conflict it can. In her rant, she points out that Ecuador is merely one of the many countries we’ve struck in the past few years.
The woman’s mother then raises concerns about government spending during the ongoing conflict. “Think about the amount that they’ve spent on the Iranian War,” she says. She continues, “They’ve already spent enough that they could have replaced all of the SNAP benefits for a year that they just cancelled for people. Money’s just going to start another war here and another war there, all while they’re just lying about why they’re starting them.”
While she is explaining her perspective, her daughter shows a news post claiming that Operation Epic Fury has already cost around $5 billion just days after it began. The post is used to support the mother’s argument that large amounts of money are being directed toward military action rather than domestic assistance programs.
The mother also comments on the justification for the strikes, referencing remarks attributed to Donald Trump about Iran’s Supreme Leader. She says Trump framed the situation as a preemptive move, adding, “I had to get him before he got me.” She then argues that, in response to tensions with foreign leaders, “He’s taking our whole country to war.”
Her comments reflect concerns shared by some critics about the cost of military action and the broader impact of escalating international conflicts.
One commenter chimed in with, “Ah yes, military overextension, the most vivid sign of a dying empire.” Another said, “I wish I could have these conversations with my MAGA parents.” Other children of parents on many sides of the political spectrum shared that they wish they didn’t feel so isolated from their parents and their varying political viewpoints. This daughter is lucky to have such a close and trusting relationship with her mom, regardless of where they appear on the political spectrum.
