Netflix has a planned 2017 release date for their third season of Bloodline. However, it appears that will be the last we see of this show.
Bloodline boasts a number of great actors, including Chandler and Mendelsohn. The show also stars Linda Cardellini, Sissy Spacek and Norbert Leo Burtz as members of the infamous Rayburn family. While the first season runs a total of 13 episodes, the second season includes only ten, with the third season reportedly following suit.
Cindy Holland, the vice president of original content at Netflix, released a statement:
“Bloodline season three will be the show’s final season. Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman and Glenn Kessler (KZK) are thoughtful and visionary storytellers, who lead a prestigious cast, that includes Kyle Chandler and Ben Mendelsohn, who have both garnered two Emmy nominations for their roles on the series. Together, with our collaborative partners at Sony Picture Television, they created a seductive show that Netflix viewers worldwide love and continue to discover. We are looking forward to the exciting climax KZK have in store for the series conclusion in May 2017.”
So far, it has been uncommon for Netflix to cancel one of their series so abruptly like this. However, there appear to be monetary reasons Bloodline is meeting its end. Florida recently changed its entertainment tax incentives program, making the filming of the drama in this state more expensive than before. Netflix will probably focus more on their shows with more profit, such as one of their Marvel undertakings, Stranger Things, or the ever-popular Orange is the New Black.
Personally, I enjoyed the first season of Bloodline immensely. The show follows an interesting premise and often takes unexpected turns for each of the family members. However, it can also drag on at points, especially when the action is less noticeable. Three seasons seems like the right amount to me, at least if the show wants to go out on a good note.
