The film premiered in the West End of London in 2011. It went on to win 12 Olivier Awards. Roald Dahl wrote the 1988 children’s novel. The book follows a young and gifted girl named Matilda with neglectful parents and an evil headmistress. Her only solace is her adoring and kind teacher, Miss Honey. Danny DeVito directed the 1996 film adaptation of the same name. The Netflix musical film adaptation stars Alisha Weir as the titular character. Matthew Warchus directed the Netflix film adaptation; he also directed the original stage musical as well. Since the creative minds behind the stage musical are involved in the film adaptation, it has the potential to live up to expectations. The Matilda the Musical teaser trailer effectively shows audiences what is in store for the film. Mara Wilson’s portrayal of Matilda is iconic, but Alisha Weir makes this character her own.
The film will premiere in theaters in the U.K. on December 2nd, but its Netflix release date has not been announced.
