Streaming services are getting to the point of rewarding people for watching TV. In this case, Netflix will begin giving an ad-free episode of TV to subscribers of its ad-supported tier if you binge-watch three or more episodes. This plan is one of three models, which were four before the quick elimination of the cheaper ad-supported plan.
Netflix Will Reward Subscribers of its Ad-Supported Tier With an Ad-Free Episode If They Binge-Watch
In a blog post, Netflix laid out its plans for next year. The plan to reward users for binge-watching will begin in the first quarter of 2024. This comes off the heels of major success for the Standard with Ads plan as it grew to 15 million subscribers of the tier. That is an increase of 10 million subscribers, as it had 5 million in May 2023.
Netflix has been tinkering with its formula, from this reward for people who binge-watch to its password crackdown. The foundation for all streaming services has been shaken, causing mass reactions from companies. Much of this was from the latest WGA strike and the current SAG-AFTRA strike as workers fight for residuals and other improvements for creatives working on streaming projects. It has even caused Netflix to hike its prices as it will now have to pay people more for their work.
The binge-watch method of viewing largely started from Netflix. While some streaming services go for weekly drops, like Disney Plus, Prime Video, and Max, the home to hits like Strangers Things prefers an all-on-one-day approach. While it will put out all episodes of something like Mike Flanagan’s projects with The Fall of the House of Usher, it has split a season in half, like for The Crown, season four of Stranger Things, and Ozark‘s final season.
