The official website for the 3D CG Ultraman anime revealed new cast members and a worldwide Netflix debut date. With this announcement, the franchise also revealed a new visual for the anime. Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki will direct Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi’s Ultraman anime. Production IG and Sola Digital Arts are once again producing the anime in 3D CG. All of these have previous ties from the first and second seasons of the Ultraman anime.
Netflix currently describes the anime’s story as;
Several years have passed since the events of Ultraman, with the legendary “Giant of Light” now a memory. It is believed he returned home after fighting the many giant aliens that invaded Earth. Shin Hayata’s son Shinjiro seems to possess a strange ability. It is this ability that leads Shinjiro to battle the new aliens invading the Earth as the new Ultraman.
Tatsuhisa Suzuki was slated to play the new Ultraman character Kōtarō Higashi/Ultraman Taro in the second season. But, he offered to step down from the role due to his hiatus from “all entertainment industry activities” last year. Tomoaki Maeno is voicing the character instead. Suzuki performed the opening theme songs for the first season as a member of OLDCODEX.
The Ultraman Phenomenon: Leading Up To Netflix
The Ultraman franchise is a Japanese tokusatsu media franchise that began in 1966 with the TV series Ultra Q and continued with the iconic series Ultraman later that year. The franchise has since expanded to include numerous TV shows, films, video games, and other media, with a wide range of spin-offs and reboots.
The Ultraman series typically follows the adventures of Ultraman, a superhero from a distant galaxy that protects Earth from various monsters and aliens that threaten the planet. Ultraman often works in partnership with the Science Patrol, a group of scientists who investigate and fight against these threats.
The franchise has gained a dedicated fan base around the world and is known for its iconic monster designs, action-packed fight scenes, and themes of heroism, teamwork, and sacrifice. The franchise has also inspired a wide range of merchandise and toys, making it one of the most successful and enduring Japanese media franchises of all time.
The first two seasons of Netflix’s Ultraman are available to stream on Netflix. The final season of Ultraman will be released on May 11th.
