Apparently, you can comply with all the rules and still have your application denied. A Nevada woman shared her frustrations with strict zoning laws. In an emotional video posted on X (formerly Twitter), the frustrated entrepreneur tearfully expressed the issues she was facing. She explained that she had just met with the county commissioners, who denied their request to have an egg stand in front of their house.
“I get it, there are Zoning Laws in place, but my house is zoned to have twenty chickens and two large livestock,” she explained. The local woman stated that she intended to “legally” sell eggs in front of her house to make it more accessible and convenient for her neighbours. “I’m so gutted because I worked so hard. This is a 6-month process,” she expressed, wiping her tears. The Nevada woman shared that though she was allowed to sell eggs, she was not permitted to sell from the front of her house. “It makes no sense. Make that make sense,” she cried.
She added that, though she had gone through the due process and obtained all the legal documents to sell the eggs, she was still denied. The clip sparked numerous comments on X with supporters rallying around the local woman. “Designed to squeeze her out. They want total control of food protection and distribution, or they can’t make communizing food function with the alternative methods like hers,” a user lamented.
Another user noted, “Farmers and individuals should be able to sell whatever they produce to their neighbors,” before adding, “Regulations should only kick in at certain levels unobtainable by individuals. It’s time for an emancipation of individuals’ rights to produce and sell with their communities.” One stated bluntly, “Politicians purposely have made it nearly impossible to have a small startup business.”
A few urged her to find loopholes or flout the rules entirely. “Do not comply with these absurd rules and regulations. The government has overstepped its boundaries. It is time for people to say no,” this comment read. Another encouraged, “I hope you sue the county. This is big government overreach. Fight. Fight. Fight it in the court of law. They want to crush the small, independent entrepreneur. So get yourself together and take it to the next level. You are fighting for thousands of people and for Liberty. For freedom and for all. Go strong!”
One user lamented, “We don’t have freedom anymore; it is being taken away by AI, robotics, and digital technology. They’ve been slowly stealing our freedom away from us. It’s all about control and power.” While another advised, “I’m a chicken farmer and I tell this to people all the time. Do not sell your eggs. Sell the carton & give the eggs away for free. You’ve got to play their game. If you try to do it their way, they’ll just take your money and tell you no.”
Some, however, saw the logic behind her request being denied. “Looks like 2 separate issues from what I can tell. She can raise chickens, sell eggs, but she can’t run a retail business in a neighbourhood zoned residential. I’m all for independent production (eggs, beef, raw milk, etc), but don’t expect them to be able to set up retail anywhere”, a user explained. A second one chimed in, “If you live in a city in residential housing I can see why you are denied. If it is a rural district, it may have something to do with traffic safety. Sue to get the right answers as to why. If they don’t tell you, it is usually zoning or road safety.”
