Have you ever wondered if you were in a dream and just couldn’t find a way to wake up? That’s the unfortunate case for Rem in NeverAwake, a twin-stick bullet hell title that delves into a girl’s mental chaos. The game comes from Neotro Inc., which has beautifully put together a new side-scrolling adventure for players to experience. NeverAwake is out now for Steam players, but console users will have to wait until 2023 for their share of the madness. A new release trailer for NeverAwake crawled into YouTube’s spectrums, which we’ve attached below for you to consume.
If You Can’t Wake Up, Fight in NeverAwake
NeverAwake, as aforementioned, is born by the developers of Neotro Inc. The studio introduces players to the girl Rem, our story’s hero. She can’t seem to wake up, and her nightmares ultimately manifest from her outside fears of vegetables, dentists, school drama, and more that kids emotionally endure. She’s had a bad time with one of these sources but needs to escape. How, though? Her nightmares are omnipresent in NeverAwake.
If you’re checking out NeverAwake, we’ll bring you up to speed on what to expect. As exemplified by the NeverAwake release trailer, anticipate intense firefights that are supported by hand-drawn animations. We also get a delicious glimpse into what grotesque creatures we’ll face, adhering to the bullet hell mayhem we come to love and appreciate.
The theme music for NeverAwake is wonderfully accompanied by Seoul-born, Tokyo-raised DJ YonYon. The artist commented on her creative process when composing the music, saying:
When I heard about this project, I wanted to make an emotional song for the ending theme. I tried to capture in the lyrics the main character Rem’s feelings as she overcomes her many traumas toward the end of the game, as well as her changing feelings toward her friends and family, and her realization of how important it was to spend time together and support each other.”
It certainly sounds like the entire message and execution of the game is personal. With both developer Neotro Inc. and YonYon’s tunes, players are bound to feel a connection somewhere down the line. The trailer and music both provide a great notion of what to expect from NeverAwake.
NeverAwake is available now for PC via Steam players for $19.99. However, since it’s a celebration, the game is offering a 15% discount ($16.99) until October 5. Now is your chance, PC players. As for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch users, you’ll have to wait until January 19, 2023, for your release.
