To say that the response to “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” was mixed would be the understatement of the millennium. However, whether you love or hate the film, there is one thing that even the harshest critics could agree on; Ben Affleck’s Batman was amazing! Now reports are coming in that Warner Bros. CEO, Kevin Tsujihara, has confirmed a solo Batman film with Ben Affleck attached is in officially in the DC pipeline. However, Affleck won’t just be starring as the title character this time around. From what we can gather, it seems he will also be directing the project as well.
“We are working with Ben Affleck on a standalone Batman movie,” the CEO confirmed during the Warner Bros. Panel at CinemaCon this past Tuesday. It’s noteworthy that rumors of this had been circulating for awhile, as rumors regarding these types of things tend to do. I remember back in 2012, long before Ben Affleck was even cast as Batman, rumors were circulating that he would direct Justice League and we all know that didn’t happen. However, this news is not coming from an anonymous source. This is coming from the studio head; the big chief. I think we can put this, as being a rumor, to rest. This is real and we are finally getting the Batman movie we want and deserve.
This seems like a dream come true for fans of Bat-Fleck. This man has directed three beautiful, Oscar Nominated Films in a row, with his last directorial effort, Argo, taking home the Oscar for Best Picture of the Year. But the great news doesn’t just stop there. Ben Affleck will, evidently, be writing the movie alongside famed comic book writer, Geoff Johns (Batman: Earth One). “There’s a script that he’s written that’s a really cool [Batman] idea, so that’s out there as an option,”confirmed Patrick Whitesell, William Morris Endeavor’s co-CEO. Affleck himself had this to say on the matter when discussing it with DC All Access,”You know he and I are working together on something and I really am excited about it, and I love him, he’s the best.”
As an Oscar Winning Screenwriter for Good Will Hunting, it seems that this trifecta of having Affleck star, write and direct the new Batman film, should give us nothing less than a masterpiece; The Bat-Masterpiece we all deserve. Do you think Affleck should write, direct and star in the next Batman film? Let us know in the comments. For those who haven’t seen Affleck as Batman yet, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is still in theaters.
