DC has announced that a new Blue Beetle “Dawn of DC” comic series is on the way. The ongoing series is launching this September, right after the cinematic debut of Jaime Reyes in August. It will branch off the final issue in writer Josh Trujillo’s current Blue Beetle: Graduation Day miniseries.
Blue Beetle Enters The Scarab War
The first arc of this new Blue Beetle comic series is titled “Scarab War.” It will team Trujillo with artists Adrian Gutierrez, Wil Quintana, and Lucas Gattoni. According to DC, this first arc focuses on Jaime Reyes and his new life in Palmera City after graduation. This includes training the new beetles, Dynastes and Nitida. However, Reyes may find his new leadership role a bit much to take.
Luckily, Paco and Brenda are in Jamie’s corner as they settle in at Palmera State University. However, there is something lurking in the shadows of the Blue Beetle’s new home, and it could have ramifications for the hero’s legacy.
What About That Movie?
The upcoming DC film Blue Beetle follows Jaime Reyes as he returns home after graduating college. While Jamie is full of plans and dreams for his future, the state of his home may derail all of that. Now, Reyes searches for a new purpose in life and his place in the world. This leads him on a path to an ancient relic of alien technology known as the Scarab. This ancient relic chooses Jamie as its host and grants him an incredible suit of armor with extraordinary capabilities. Now, Jamie may have found his new purpose as the Blue Beetle.
Directed by Angel Manuel Solo, Blue Beetle stars Xolo Mariduena, Susan Sarandon, Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carillo, Damian Alcazar, and Harvey Guillen. It will be in theaters on August 18.
