Marvel Games unveiled its upcoming superhero action game, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. We have been hearing rumors and leaks about a Captain America and Black Panther game for years now, and it’s high time we finally got a peek into what SkyDance New Media has been working on.

The studio’s name may not seem familiar to the uninitiated, but the new team is led by Amy Hennig, who used to work at EA and Naughty Dog. Some of her best work includes directing the fan favorite Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.

According to the developers, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is planned for release sometime in 2025, and is a narrative-driven action-adventure game. Even though the trailer mostly shows in-game cutscenes, with only brief glimpses of actual gameplay, it does appear to play similarly to Batman Arkham Asylum, especially since it won’t be open world.

The game will focus on Captain America, aka Steve Rogers, and an older Black Panther by the name of Azzuri, who happens to be the grandfather of the more recognizable Panther, T’Challa. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra takes place during the World War II era sometime in the 1940s, before the Captain was frozen in ice and brought to the current period.

Only two other in-game characters have been confirmed as of now, Gabriel Jones and Nanali, the former being on Steve Rogers’ side, while the latter is a Wakandan spy helping the much older and wisened Black Panther.

Although the trailer shows Captain America and Black Panther at odds, this won’t remain the case for long and even the developers have confirmed that. Since they are both on the same side, they will form an “uneasy alliance” to fight against a common enemy.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will take place in occupied Paris and the antagonist will be, of course, the evil Nazi organization, Hydra. The trailer sets up a fascinating story, and the game looks visually phenomenal. SkyDance New Media has confirmed that the new game starring Captain America and Black Panther is being developed on Unreal Engine 5.
