Trusting your food delivery driver has become quite a gamble these days, especially in light of some recent scandals concerning food delivery services. Sadly, a new fear has been added to the pile after a viral video from California shows what many people assumed to be a food delivery driver rubbing his shoe on someone’s food. The incident has further worsened the distrust between customers and food delivery services.
The incident apparently took place in Sacramento, California, something Instagram user @cars87_ caught on video. @cars87_ was just renting an Airbnb in the city when he noticed a car blocking the driveway. The Instagram user, however, was shocked to see that the driver of the car opened a packaged meal, removed his shoe, and then rubbed the shoe on the food, presumably not his food.
The Instagram user then confronted the driver, accusing him of tainting the food he was supposed to deliver to a customer, and assuming that the driver was a food delivery service. “I got you on camera, bro, you’re sick, bro. You’re [expletive] disgusting,” exclaims the Instagram user. The driver, however, was quick to deny the accusations and presumptions, saying, “It’s mine,” referring to the food he rubbed with his shoes.
Of course, it’s not exactly a believable excuse, as no person would willingly eat food with bacteria from their shoe, unless it’s a new, odd, or undiscovered way to season your meal with earthy flavors, though that’s far-fetched. The driver drove away before the Instagram user could confirm whether he really worked for a food delivery service or not. It might be possible he’s just trying to food poison an in-law or something (not recommended or condoned, by the way).
People online were appalled
As expected, even the viewers and commenters didn’t believe the driver’s excuse. It had to be someone else’s food, and many have also assumed that he went on to complete his food delivery. Hence, people who order food using DoorDash, Grubhub, Uber Eats, or through other services grew more suspicious with comments like, “If my bag ain’t stapled with 123 staples I don’t want it😭.’
“Make you wanna cancel that dash pass asap 😮💨,” worries another customer. Sadly, delivery drivers who work honestly have voiced out their own concerns, since drivers like those in the video are making their job more difficult, “He makes it bad for the rest of us that’s just trying to pay bills 😒,” rants one of them.
It appears the specific man in the video hasn’t been caught yet, though the Instagram user has tagged numerous food delivery services in hopes of apprehending the miscreant. The Instagram user swears it’s a legitimate encounter and not staged, and numerous commenters have since praised him for calling out the driver, “I’m glad you went up to him.”
