A brand new trailer for Gundam Evolution has debuted at PlayStation’s State of Play on Wednesday. The trailer for the upcoming 6v6 Gundam online shooter received a new overview trailer during the presentation, as well as the confirmation of a release in the West. The free-to-play shooter will be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X sometime in 2022.
The first-person, team-based shooter was first announced back in July of 2021 by Bandai Namco and, at the time, was only confirmed to be released in Japan. Developed by Bandi Namco Online, Gundam Evolution utilizes 6v6 combat and features three objective-based game modes: Point Capture, Domination, and Destruction. Players will be able to pilot classic Gundam units from across the franchise in online multiplayer battles, including, but not limited to, the RX-78-2 Gundam, the ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos, the MSN-04 Sazabi, the MS-06 Zaku II, and many more shown throughout the Gundam Evolution trailer.
“Suit up and take control of the battlefield in the world’s first free-to-play Mobile Suit FPS, GUNDAM EVOLUTION, coming to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in 2022! Select from a wide range of Mobile Suits from across the Gundam multiverse, each with its own unique attack and support”, the official synopsis from the PlayStation State of Play trailer reads.
Additional mobile suits will be made available through an earnable in-game currency or through EVO Coins, which will need to be purchased with real money. In addition, the publisher announced that both season passes and a closed network test for Gundam Evolution, the latter of which will be open on PC from April 7-12. Steam players can register for the test until March 28, and a similar test will be coming to consoles as well, though the date has not yet been specified. Season passes will include new unlockable cosmetics like mobile suit skins, weapon skins, weapon charms, and other available accessories.
