Billionaires have been proven to pay an incredibly small amount of taxes compared to your average John and Jane Doe. Even though wealthy people want to complain about how they don’t get to keep all of their wealth, despite living better than most people. A New Jersey woman shows just how ridiculous rich people can be. As a bartender, she witnessed a simple night out that resulted in a massive tab. It would’ve bankrupted most people, and yet it was paid in full.
In Deborah’ Rayne’s video (@d_rayneday on TikTok), she opens with: “You think you’re doing okay when you make it to six figures.” She worked in several high-end restaurants in New York City and said she was shocked by the “obscene” amount of money rich people spent. To demonstrate, she shows a bar tab from 2017 showing a couple spent $5,947.84. But then they paid another $1,200 as a tip. She said the bill may look absurd, but bar tabs like this happened “fairly regularly” in her line of work. People can barely afford a $500 emergency—$7,000 would change their lives. And here it is, being spent on a simple night out.
Deborah seems to agree. She goes on to say, “This is an everyday f*****g Tuesday for wealthy people in this country. Money that would change your f*****g life, they’re blowing on their bar tab just for funsies.” She asks how that’s fair when there’s people out there struggling with groceries and living paycheck to paycheck. Not to mention the cost of healthcare and raising kids.
Deborah makes another good point about how unfair our federal minimum wage really is in the U.S. She said the grocery store charged her $7.29 for a box of cereal. That translates to at least one hour of work to afford. It really makes you take a close look at just how much regular, everyday people struggle in America compared to the uber-wealthy.
Commenters agreed that the wealth disparity of this country is horribly lopsided. One individual pointed out, “If I got 7k right now, my life would change for at least a good 2 years, I’m not even joking. Some people have way too much money.” Another person said, “And ppl mad ab junk food on snap.” What people who experience poverty deal with on a daily basis is absurd. We should also be looking at millionaires and billionaires who hoard their wealth like a greedy dragon, especially when others have so little.
