New Jersey Families Celebrate Father’s Day Outside Delaney Hall Detention Center: ‘We need to remember all of this when the midterms come’

So much love and sadness

The New Jersey community didn’t skip a beat on Father’s Day. A video on TikTok is going viral, revealing numerous ties being hung from the outer fence of the Delaney Hall ICE facility. Even when locked up, families are doing what they can to honor and celebrate their fathers.

A TikTok user, Adamcrai, a journalist and commentator who was there to record the celebration, made sure to capture the numerous ties hanging outside. He pans the video around the bars outside, where you see literally hundreds of ties hanging up. Somebody placed a poster at the foot of the gate that states, “Happy Father’s Day to the Delaney Dads!”

As he’s panning around, you can hear the crowds of people gathered behind him. Though none of the Delaney fathers are outside at the time, they’ll definitely receive the message. It’s hard to avoid seeing all those ties. It’s a sweet but depressing moment, though, to see the outpouring of support in the local community.

Adam shared multiple points of view of the families and residents hanging their ties throughout the day on Sunday. Some of these included actual families whose loved ones are trapped within Delaney’s walls. These families want justice for their loved ones. Adam continues to share journalist videos related to Delaney Hall and the injustices occurring within.

As for the ICE facility itself, Delaney Hall has been at the center of ongoing protests against ICE. This has led to protesters being pushed into ‘First Amendment zones,’ reports of inhumane conditions, and a hunger strike. Delaney Hall has even the subject of numerous viral videos. For example, two young children had their TikTok video explode on social media of them protesting ICE agents outside.

The Internet reacts to the bittersweet Father’s Day celebration

In addition to the love New Jersey locals showed their fathers, Adam’s TikTok video’s comment section was flooded with support. Not to mention equal scorn towards ICE agents for making it this way.

“We need to remember all of this when the midterms come everybody needs to remember this💙💙💙💙💙💙,” one of the top comments reads. In the thread, others felt this would amount to nothing. “Remembering won’t do [expletive] for the people already dying in there. It’s in our power to stop all of this, we just need to remind them of that,“ a TikTok user responded with.

Another shared their discontent with the U.S., saying: “All the children who miss their dads. All the empty chairs at the dinner table 😭 I don’t recognize us anymore.” One commenter compared Delaney Hall to the concentration camps of the Holocaust. “People this is a flashback of the 30’s. Open your eyes,” they wrote.

Given how difficult it’s been for visitors to enter Delaney Hall, it’s a wonder if any of the fathers inside were able to see their children.
