Notably, this ‘Friends’ promo gives us a glimpse at the relationship between the new Riggs and Murtaugh. Because Gibson and Glover obviously, aren’t returning to the roles. So it’s particularly important that we find out how the new actors are going to play it.
Clayne Crawford, for instance, is playing Riggs and Damon Wayans is playing Murtaugh. Crawford debuted on TV as a minor character in season one of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. While Wayans’ first role was a part in Beverly Hill Cop.
Above all, the relationship between the two is crucial to the show’s success or failure. Indeed FOX’s website describes the dynamic between the two as follows;
“When CAPTAIN BROOKS AVERY (Kevin Rahm, “Mad Men”) assigns them their first case together, Riggs drags Murtaugh into a high-speed chase culminating inside the Long Beach Grand Prix and a seaport shootout with drug dealers – and despite his protests, the older cop feels more alive than he has in years. Meanwhile, Riggs gets a glimpse of why Murtaugh is so determined to get home safely at the end of each day – he’s got a wife, TRISH (Keesha Sharp, “The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story”), teenagers ROGER, JR. (Dante Brown, “Mr. Robinson”) and RIANA (newcomer Chandler Kinney) and a newborn baby.”
Lethal Weapon debuts on FOX on September 21st. The movies set a high standard to meet. September will show us if the show can measure up.
