The Mafia series might finally be making a comeback after its long hiatus according to a reliable leaker who believes that Take-Two Interactive is getting ready to announce a new Mafia game soon. Kurakasis, the leaker who confirmed the imminent announcement of Mafia 4, has a solid track record of leaking massive titles before official announcements like Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, Marvel’s 1943: Rise of Hydra, and Metro Awakening. This is what gives the leak more credence.
This isn’t the only leak that has shed some light on an upcoming Mafia game since there have been leaks, rumors, and even official job postings in the recent past. Only last year, a job listing popped up from Take-Two that was for “an unannounced multi-platform game currently in pre-production using Unreal Engine 5.” And since it was in pre-production back then, it should be a couple of years from release now, which would make it a good time for an announcement.
Mafia 4 Leak Suggests an Announcement Is Happening Sometime Soon
The job listing also confirmed that the new Mafia game will have engaging stealth and combat loops, both of which were sorely lacking in the last entry in the franchise. According to another leak from May 2022 from Kotaku, the next Mafia game in the franchise will take place in Sicily and will be set in the 1930s, far before all other games in the series. But of course, we recommend taking these leaks with a grain of salt until an official announcement from Take-Two Interactive.
The last entry in the mainline Mafia series was Mafia 3, which was an ambitious undertaking in many ways but fell short of its lofty goals. The focus of the game was not exactly on the Mafia and underground crime anymore, but essentially just gang wars. We also saw the release of the Mafia Remake that came out in September 2020 to critical acclaim. It was not only a faithful recreation of the original, but it was also an impressive retelling of the original story with new cutscenes, dialogues, and story beats.
