Blizzard Entertainment has begun teasing the newest character to join the ranks of Overwatch.
The official Overwatch Twitter page tweeted an image depicting the blueprints of what appears to be a sniper rifle. The photo contains dialogue from characters Angela Ziegler (Mercy) and Torbjörn discussing the weapon’s modifications of Mercy’s healing technology.
The image leaves us to believe a character will indeed be a healer, putting them in the support class, and has long range damage potential. The addition of another support would bring the total of every class to have five different characters, balancing class diversity.
Blizzard has been quite coy regarding the many rumors and suggestions of the next character’s identity. A particularly popular rumor believes to new sniper to be named Sombra. Further evidence has been found scattered throughout the map Dorado with the name inside certain documents littering the map. Data miners have also found the name in Reaper’s audio files.
Game Director Jeff Kaplan told Eurogamer in an interview “We have put a lot of hints, all over the game and out of the game,” he explained. “I would say it’s about time that people are concerned with who Sombra is. I hope they keep researching more and find more hints that are out there.”
