Terra Nil Trailer and Details
Terra Nil is an upcoming city building and strategy game developed by South African Free Games and published by Devolver Digital. First revealed in 2021, Terra Nil received a brand new trailer during the Wholesome Direct 2022 as part of the Summer Of Gaming celebration, providing a deeper look into the so-called reverse city builder’s mechanics and features.
In the game, players will be tasked with restoring a destroyed environment to its former glory by doing things such as bringing life back to lifeless landscapes and building facilities that progressively bring back more plant life and fauna.
The game consists of various phases, the first being wasteland reclamation. Players must start the water system and slowly purify the soil to cultivate the greenery. From there, they will embark on more ambitious tasks, restore biodiversity, fix the climate, introduce wildlife, and recycle all the structures used to leave the environment pristine.
As seen in the new Terra Nil trailer, each region of the game exists on unique, procedurally generated maps, where players must navigate sprawling, verdant, hand-painted environments where everything around them moves and breathes, mellowed out by a meditative soundtrack and stunning audio palette. The official destruction reads:
“Terra Nil is a reverse city builder about ecosystem reconstruction. Turn a barren wasteland into an ecological paradise complete with different flora and fauna. Then clean up, leaving the environment pristine. Subverting the builder genre, Terra Nil is about the restoration of a ravaged environment.”
A demo for the game is currently available on PC via Steam, and the game is expected to release sometime later this year.
