The trailer for Judd Apatow’s upcoming original film The Bubble just premiered for Netflix, and it’s filled with all the humor we’ve come to love from the comedic director, including a cameo from SNL’s Kate McKinnon and a hilarious scene with Benedict Cumberbatch. The Netflix original coincidentally has a release date of April 1st which perfectly complements its playful ensemble and humorous concept. The Bubble is a satirical film that pokes fun at the complexity of creating a movie during the pandemic. Judging by the official trailer, things escalate quickly. Netflix describes the film as “a comedy about a group of actors and actresses stuck inside a pandemic bubble at a hotel attempting to complete a sequel to an action franchise film about flying dinosaurs.”
The Bubble Trailer Shows Another Blockbuster Hit For Apatow
The Bubble also stars funny guys Keegan-Michael Key, Fred Armisen, and David Duchovny. Between over-the-top acting, the relatable concept, and the casting of some of the best comedians of our generation, it looks like we’re in for another Judd Apatow blockbuster hit (Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin are just a few of his comedic classics). Although we won’t see any of the Apatow rat pack in this Netflix original (recurring stars Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, Bill Hader, and Jonah Hill are all absent from the credits), The Bubble will reunite Apatow with his wife Leslie Mann and their daughter Iris Apatow for the first time since 2012’s This Is 40. Looks like Iris is the next Apatow in line for stardom, following behind the success of her older sister Maude Apatow who currently plays Lexi in HBO’s Euphoria.
They say the best way to get through a tough time is to make fun of it; The Bubble apparently does an excellent job of parodying today’s stressful society from daily nose swabs, the obsession with social media, and costars testing positive for contagions. The Netflix original comedy stars Pedro Pascal, Fred Armisen, Karen Gillan, Leslie Mann, Iris Apatow, Maria Bakalova, David Duchovny, Peter Serafinowicz, and Keegan-Michael Key. Considering that Apatow is known for his improvised filming style, I can’t wait to see the natural chemistry and crazy antics that ensue between this lineup of comedians.
