A video has surfaced of the newly appointed New York City Sheriff Edwin Raymond on the social media site X that features him allegedly speaking out against policing. The video is a string of different examples with the New York City, New York, officer speaking on the subject.

The comments of this particular video appear to express discontent over this. Many users are sharing their opinions and frustrations, with some urging city residents to move out for their own safety.

The video above was posted to the X profile End Wokeness and begins with a clip of Edwin Raymond speaking on the current state of policing. He can be heard saying, “– much more complex than just simple, individual racism. It’s the racism that’s inverwoven in the system by the way of the enforcement quotas in black and hispanic communities.”

Various other clips are shown, which feature different examples of Raymond talking about this topic. In another clip, he appears to disagree with the behaviors of some police officers who target minority communities to meet daily ticket and arrest quotas. He can be heard saying, “Those cops are being instructed and pressured to get the low-level arrest with the belief that it stops the more serious things from happening.“

Edwin Raymond was appointed to the New York City Sheriff on May 29 after Mayor Zohran Mamdani officially replaced former sheriff Anthony Miranda. Raymond worked in the NYPD for 15 before finally retiring in 2023.

In a statement, Mandani said, “Edwin Raymond represents the kind of public servant New Yorkers deserve: principled, courageous and deeply committed to justice. Throughout his career, he has fought to build a public safety system rooted in effectiveness, accountability and public trust. Edwin understands that true safety comes when government earns the confidence of the people it serves, and I am proud to welcome him to our administration as Sheriff of the City of New York.”

Reactions to NYS Sheriff Edwin Raymond’s Thoughts on Police

Commenters shared their frustrations in the comments section below, with some suggesting that New Yorkers leave. One person wrote, “That’s messed up. White people should move out for their own safety and piece of mind.“

In a similar vein, a different reply read, “We’ve seen this happen so many times, we already know where it’s going. If you live in New York, GET THE [EXPLETIVE] OUT NOW. You’ve had nothing but warnings. If you stay beyond this, you have nobody to blame but yourself. And yes, there is ALWAYS a way.”

Others were more concerned about the fact that Raymond was put in this position, with one person writing, “I always thought sheriffs were elected, not appointed. Does NYC run on different rules?”

The comments section of this post continues to get more responses from other X users as the video goes viral. This debate currently shows few signs of slowing down.
