A Delta flight into JFK turned into chaos at altitude on Sunday, and by the time it was over, two flight attendants were hurt, Selma Blair was in custody, and her camp was pointing to a medical crisis.
The New York arrest came after Blair, 54, allegedly attempted to open the aircraft door mid-flight on a Delta plane bound for JFK, then punched one flight attendant and bit another, per dispatch audio obtained by TMZ and information the Port Authority provided the outlet. Law enforcement was waiting at the gate Sunday, and the Legally Blonde star was taken into custody on arrival.
Her representative’s statement frames everything that follows: “Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct.” The rep added, “Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition.” What the emergency was has not been specified by her camp, and this piece will not guess.
The dispatch audio sketches a frightening scene. The recording indicates she apparently struck her head against a bulkhead, with medical personnel requested at the gate for reported minor injuries, including a bloody nose and bite marks. Two flight attendants reported injuries, per the Port Authority, with one taken to the hospital.
Blair was arrested on landing and transported to a hospital for evaluation, where she remained as of TMZ’s report. The FBI is investigating, and it is not yet clear whether she will face criminal charges. Interference with a flight crew is federal territory, making the charging decision the next chapter.
One prior aviation incident sits in the record: in 2016 she was removed from a flight by stretcher after an outburst, an episode she later addressed openly. Nothing in the current record connects the two beyond the setting.
As recently as October 1, Blair appeared in good spirits at a Jewish Museum event in New York. Eleven days later, a routine flight ended in an arrest, a hospital bed, and a federal file, with the only explanation so far being two words from her rep: medical emergency.
Chaos at Altitude
“Whatever was going on I trust her. It’s like finding out Jack Bauer did something crazy. There is a good reason for it,” ran the benefit-of-the-doubt voice, while one reply kept to the filmography, posting “She has a good lawyer” beside Elle Woods announcing herself as counsel. The rest watched the system: “Pretty sure if I did that I’d be banned from flying,” and the weary universal, “What is it about airports and airplanes that bring out the absolute worst in people?!“
Two injured crew members, one hospitalized actress, an open FBI file, and a charging decision pending. The story is developing by the hour, and the record is exactly this thin: allegations attributed, an emergency unspecified, a decision pending.
Whatever happened in that cabin, it ended with everyone alive and one answer still missing.
