New York Man Grilled by Cops for Grabbing Burger King ‘Breakfast’ at Lunchtime: ‘So Breakfast After Noon is Illegal Now?’

Turns out it was a nothingburger

Most adults usually don’t have anything to fear whenever they’re accused of eating breakfast too late. However, one man from New York got a bit of a close call after a police officer kept trying to find probable cause by accusing him of eating a Burger King breakfast past noon. The cops– three of them, even tried to escalate the matter despite the lack of probable cause. Here’s the bodycam footage:

The incident happened to New York City resident Mark Vermylen at around 12:48 PM on June 3, though he only managed to upload the bodycam footage in July. Mark merely grabbed lunch at the nearest Burger King in his area when suddenly, a cop patrol pulled him over. Apparently, Vermylen turned too early before activating his blinker, and this caught the cop’s attention.

The cop then questioned Vermylen, and as you can see and hear in the video, the New York man explicitly said he went out for “lunch”. Still, the cop asked him to step out of the vehicle because suddenly he thought he heard Vermylen say “breakfast” despite the bodycam evidence. The patrol then called for backup and even a K9 search, possibly thinking Vermylen had narcotics in his vehicle.

Thankfully, Vermylen chose to stay calm. The police officers then gave up and just gave a court summons to Vermylen for improper signaling. However, the police officer’s barrage of ridiculous questions and gaslighting has made the incident viral. The cop kept trying to accuse Vermylen of being up to something, and that something wasn’t adding up, with his only “lead” being that he misheard the man say “breakfast” instead of “lunch.”

Eat Your Meals Right, People!

Due to the incident and the cop’s manner of questioning, Vermylen’s run-in with law enforcement has turned into a bit of a meme. People online were quick to defend Vermylen and mock the police who questioned him, especially since three or four of them rushed out and wasted gas for a mere dude who grabbed a Burger King meal.

Some people were even questioning what exactly the cops were implying or what they wanted the “investigation” to arrive at, likely fishing for a possible narcotics case. It appears the police thought Vermylen was using his Burger King lunch or breakfast as an alibi for whatever shady stuff they wrongfully assumed he was doing.

In any case, Vermylen is safe now from cops who wanted to police his meal times. The cops, however, weren’t safe from public scrutiny and mockery.
