Stories of children being switched at birth have always seemed far-fetched. However, for this New York man, these stories have become a reality. Kevin McMahon, is a 60-year-old Long Island native. Kevin had reportedly grown up with suspicions that something wasn’t right about his family. Although they turned out to be true after his sister took a DNA test. McMahon was switched at birth. Kevin is now taking legal action in order to sort all of this out.

According to ABC 7 New York, Kevin McMahon’s siblings would always joke about him being the odd man out. They would say he was the “mailman’s son.” Kevin looked noticeably different than the rest of his siblings, which is what most likely started his suspicions at a young age. McMahon’s siblings were all fair, had straight hair, their eyes were blue, and they had freckles. However, Kevin had none of these things. The New York man was issued a birth certificate ending in 2710 at Jamaica Hospital in May of 1960. However, another baby, Ross McMahon, was born a moment later with his birth certificate ending in 2711. The two ended up being switched at birth, and now Kevin is suing the hospital. Social media users have even rallied to his side as one even stated, “That’s messed up,” in regards to being switched at birth.

“They’re two Caucasian mothers with the same last name, in their 30s, that both gave birth to baby boys at the same hospital on the same day within two hours of each other,” said attorney Jeremy Schiowitz.

Kevin recalls the moment when who he thought was his biological sister told him the news regarding her DNA test. McMahon explains that she was “so fearful” to tell him. The Long Island native also recalls not being able to process the information very well once he had finally learned the truth. Rightfully so, Kevin was extremely confused and most likely wanted answers. However, McMahon does remember one thing specifically from that moment, and that was being in shock.

Genetic Genealogist Cece Moore was then brought in to speak on the situation. Cece confirms that she has seen plenty of cases just like this around the United States. According to the source, Moore has been featured on Finding Your Roots, A PBS series. As for Kevin McMahon, the New York man is taking legal action. However, it’s unclear what exactly he’s hoping to accomplish. Although, something must be done to ensure that something like this does not happen again. Despite Kevin finally knowing the truth, he states that it was too late for the truth to calm his insecurities.
