According to ABC, U.S. Park Police say the incident occurred Saturday in Howard Beach. Three of the four alleged suspects have since been arrested, though their names have not yet been released. The fourth remains unidentified, and most critically, the swan is still missing.
The female swan, reportedly a mother of four, was taken in what some fear may have been either a senior prank gone wrong or a disturbing act of animal cruelty, potentially even for ritual purposes. But it’s the bird’s wellbeing, not the suspects’, that has the internet in a frenzy.

That was so scary how he was holding it. They have so many tiny bones. I hope none are broken or damaged.”
The emotional toll wasn’t lost on locals, either. “They took the swan away from their family!” a furious commenter posted. Another begged for good news, “Pls tell us the swan is alive and well.” One user, claiming to live in the area, offered more context, “It was a mute swan, mother of 4, still missing. According to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, mute swans are legally protected, meaning it’s illegal to handle, harm, or disturb the birds, their nests, or their eggs without official permission from the agency.
