When you’re using public transportation, it’s generally a good idea to be mindful of others and not make too much noise. After all, nobody wants their ears assaulted by someone’s grating voice on a long ride. Unfortunately, some people don’t seem to develop that sense of mindfulness and act completely selfishly instead. During a bus trip on an MTA bus in New York, passengers grew increasingly annoyed when a woman was speaking very loudly on her phone. One passenger, clearly fed up with the noise, finally broke the silence and told her to lower her voice. However, the New York woman snapped and began shouting slurs, calling the person recording her a “dirty Jew.” The cameraman, realizing he was dealing with a troublesome person, began recording the interaction.
As if using one slur wasn’t enough, she then insulted him again. Despite the verbal attacks, the cameraman stayed calm and continued to record silently while the woman carried on her FaceTime call. Annoyed by the attention, the New York woman said she was just going to make her call even louder. When other passengers tried to intervene, she ironically told everyone else on the bus to “be quiet” and then threatened to slap them. Moments later, she actually slapped the cameraman’s phone away.
The video then cut to another clip showing the woman saying she wouldn’t get arrested because she “knew her rights.” Despite all her bravado, she eventually stood up from her seat and began exiting the MTA bus. As the cameraman continued to record her, she hurled more insults and said that recording her wouldn’t make a difference.
But instead of leaving quietly, the woman stood near the front of the bus and continued ranting at the passengers. Eventually, a police officer was called. The moment the New York woman saw the officer, she suddenly claimed that the people on the bus were being racist toward her. Throughout the whole thing, the cameraman kept recording as she continued throwing out insults. It didn’t seem like she was arrested, though she finally stomped away with a surly expression.
Redditors who saw the video were shocked and disturbed by the woman’s behavior. After all, the cameraman had only asked her to lower her voice, yet she chose to escalate the situation dramatically. “This person is unstable,” one user wrote. Others called her entitled and childish for not considering the other passengers who had to share the space with her. Some pointed out that her constant stream of insults and slurs revealed her true personality.
“Confidence, mental illness, and bigotry is an awful combination. Crazy how often I’m seeing people act like this. The fact that she’s calling everyone else entitled Karens is also extremely silly,” one Redditor said.
