New York Woman Says Downstairs Neighbors Keep Harassing Her With Noise Complaints: ‘Those People Are Doing It on Purpose’

Living in an apartment building means accepting that noise is part of the package. To improve your situation, you can put down rugs, keep the TV at a reasonable volume, or avoid loud gatherings late at night, and hope that your neighbors are just as considerate. Apparently, not everyone understands that. A woman in New York City says her neighbors are taking things too far and have made her uneasy in her own home by filing constant complaints over even the smallest sounds.

She explained that the problems began during her first week in the apartment. “I hear someone knocking on my door, and it’s the downstairs neighbors asking me if I could put the TV down,” she recalled. It was a Friday afternoon, and she had the television on while unpacking. Out of respect, she lowered the volume, but the complaints didn’t stop there. The woman said the neighbors even called the police on her over the TV volume, simple conversations with her mom, and even the sound of her walking around the apartment. “God forbid a girl has to walk in her own apartment,” she said. Tensions grew worse when the husband allegedly came upstairs yelling at her roommate during a plumbing repair. Even after she followed management’s request to put down rugs, the complaints kept coming.

I wish this was all but this just an ounce of everything that I have been dealing with. Maybe I’ll make a part 2😅 #nyc #nycliving #nightmareneighbor #neighborsfromhell #neighborproblems #nycapartment #bronx #ny

The creator admitted the stress has affected her daily life. “My mom doesn’t like to come over anymore because she feels like anytime she comes into this house, she has to tiptoe,” she explained. She also said she feels anxious whenever friends visit. More recently, management flagged her lease for supposedly not placing rugs, even though she claims they were inspected and approved months earlier. On top of that, the neighbors reported she had a dog, though she insists she was only pet-sitting.

Many viewers empathized with her, insisting the neighbors’ behavior went beyond normal complaints. “Move honey. Those people are doing it on purpose,” someone wrote. A few urged her to take legal action. “Sue them for emotional distress you have proof!!!” one person suggested, while a second added that she should speak to an attorney to see if she can “file a complaint on them filing false police reports.”

Some netizens encouraged her to document the confrontations with cameras or consider leaving. “My peace is worth more… I’d find somewhere else to go,” a commenter said. Several pointed out that the neighbors’ demands were unreasonable in a shared building. “They need to get their own house because if they don’t want to hear noise they need to live in their own place,” one netizen remarked.
