A heat wave meteorologists are now saying is “record-breaking” has been moving through the northeast and wreaking havoc in its wake. There have been warnings of it being incredibly dangerous to spend more time outside than you need to in certain areas, with the heat physically buckling roads and leaving people stranded without air conditioning. One woman in New York had a unique experience during the heat wave when the 99-degree temperatures turned her Coach purse into more of a ‘Melting’ purse.
TikToker Kailee (@kaileeaaliyah) shared a video of her walking through a store in New York City during record-breaking high temperatures. She shows the strap of her purse, “It’s so hot in NYC that my bag melted on to my shirt,” she says. In smaller caption read, “It’s a Coach bag.” When she pulls the bag’s strap away from her shoulder, it pulls on the shirt. With more effort, Kailee pulls the strap away, but not before leaving behind fabric.
Kailee then pans over to a screenshot taken on a weather app, which shows it’s 99-degrees Fahrenheit. When she finally releases the shoulder strap, there is a massive black burn mark left behind on her all-white t-shirt. It virtually looks like tread marks left on a roadway on a hot day. It’s a truly shocking representation of just how hot the temperatures are, even on the east coast.
Aside from the initial shock from the video, commenters had a lot to say about the woman’s bag. She claims in the video that it’s a Coach bag but viewers find this information hard to believe. One former Coach employee commented, “Leather doesn’t melt. Coach uses real leather. What you have there is a Cooch.” A good comparison of this is the leather that is used to make automobile seats. The seat itself is made from genuine leather and has heat resistance so you don’t fuse to the seat.
Other commenters believe maybe Coach is lying about their usage of real leather in their products. One commenter noted, “Well I’d think not since she said it’s Coach and directly @’d Coach in her video description. Maybe Coach material isn’t that high quality actually lol.” That’s a good point—why call out Coach directly if you’re lying? That opens you up to liability.
If you aren’t a Coach aficionado, a simple Google search will tell you most Coach bags are made out of premium leather. “Most” is the keyword there. Some wallets and bags will incorporate synthetic materials or fake leather. Regardless of whether or not her bag is a true Coach, the heat wave is something for us to all be shrieking about. During this time, it is important to prioritize staying cool and limit your time outdoors.
