Do you remember watching kids make a mess on TV, all for the glory of knowing they would be crowned victors if they beat their opponents? If you do, then you must remember Double Dare or its more recent version, Double Dare 2000. Nailing down which one was better doesn’t matter, though. All that matters is the announcement Nickelodeon made on Wednesday saying that Double Dare will be coming back to their network for a revamped, more extreme, slime-filled game show.
The show will return this summer to give “a new generation of kids the chance to compete in the messiest and most physically challenging competition of their lives,” Nickelodeon announced. This return comes a year and a half after the 30th anniversary special Nickelodeon aired in 2016 to honor Double Dare. I guess there was a good turnout for that special, considering the network has decided to revive the entire series with a brand new look. Same old mess, though. Giant boogers included.
The original series aired from 1986-1993 but was then revived in 2000 for a brief stint. The 1986 version was hosted by Marc Summers and co-hosted by Marc Marella. The 2000 version was hosted by Jason Harris Katz.
Nickelodeon hasn’t revealed who’ll take up the mantle for the 2018 version of Double Dare, but they’ve stated that the new series “will feature appearances from blasts from the past, long-time ‘Double Dare’ fans and stars from today.”
If you don’t know what Double Dare is, or just don’t remember… Well, it’s a game show where two teams compete with each other by answering trivia questions and performing an array of (usually) messy challenges. But what the game show is known for, what kept viewers coming back for more, was the super mega, messy, slime-filled obstacle course at the end of each program. Only one team could come out on top; all they had to was find their way through the giant nose. Yuck.
No specific premiere date has been revealed, but you can expect Nickelodeon will make that announcement soon.
Most of the time he spends writing, reading (anything from comics to classic literature), playing video games, and wondering when the next Elder Scrolls title will be released. Hopefully soon…
