Nicki Minaj could face criminal assault and battery charges following an incident with her former manager. A lawsuit was filed against the singer, detailing the alleged assault. Now, the man claiming to be her former manager is seeking damages. Will Nicki do jail time?
What Happened Between Nicki Minaj & Her Former Manager?
Brandon Garrett claims that he used to manage Nicki Minaj. On Friday, he filed a lawsuit detailing an incident he had with his former boss on April 21, 2024. He says that Nicki got physical with him.
The lawsuit claims that Garrett went back to the star’s dressing room after a show. During their interaction, he says that Nicki Minaj flipped out after hearing that he sent someone else to pick up one of her prescriptions.
The suit states that there were about eight other people present in the room when everything went down. One of those individuals was a man named Luke Montgomery. Nicki started asking the people in the room what their responsibilities were, stating that it seemed like no one knew what they were supposed to be doing.
After asking Montgomery what his job was, he gave her details about what he was doing day to day. “Mr. Montgomery explained that his duties entailed tasks like venue dressing room set-up, private jet set-up, hotel room set-up, quick change room refreshments and tour bus set-up,” the lawsuit reads. “Mr. Montgomery mentioned these duties were in addition to any requests from [Minaj] communicated by [Garrett], including food orders, drinks, personal items, baby items, and, most notably, prescriptions.”
Nicki completely lost it. According to the suit, she started telling Garrett how his “life was over.“
“Are you f***ing crazy having him pick up my prescription? You have lost your f***ing mind and if my husband [Kenneth Petty] were here, he would knock out your f***ing teeth. You’re a dead man walking. You just f***ed up your whole life, and you will never be anyone, I’ll make sure of it,” she screamed.
Then, he alleges that she slapped him across the face with an open hand. She also allegedly hit his wrist to knock the paperwork out of his hands.
Minaj’s Lawyer Denies All Allegations
Following the altercation, Garrett allegedly locked himself in the bathroom for several hours. During that time, he received a text message stating that he wouldn’t be asked back for Nicki’s next tour stop.
Garrett is suing Nicki Minaj for assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. He intends to seek damages for the incident as well.
Sources from law enforcement told TMZ that the Detroit Police have sent a warrant request to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. Right now, it’s up to the prosecutors to decide whether or not any charges will be filed.
Judd Burstein, Nicki Minaj’s lawyer, issued a statement regarding the pending lawsuit. While the rap star hasn’t received the details yet, they are denying all of the allegations being made.
“At this time, no complaint has been served upon [Minaj], and therefore, we are unaware of the specific allegations,” Burstein’s statement read. “However, if the lawsuit is as reported by TMZ, it is completely false and frivolous. We are confident that the matter brought by this ex-assistant will be resolved swiftly in Mrs. Petty’s favor.”
