Native American fighter Nightwolf was revealed as the latest addition to the roster of Mortal Kombat 11(MK 11) this morning, August 1.
The revelation came in the form of a new video produced by Nether Realms Studio, the game’s development studio, marketing the Kombat Pack DLC season pass. The video shows Nightwolf facing off against various MK 11 fighters and displays special moves, combo chains and, of course, a Fatality. Nightwolf will become available to owners of the Kombat Pack on August 13.
Nightwolf is a returning Character to the MK series who first appeared in Mortal Kombat 3, and the fourth to be added post release, after Shang Tsung, Sindel, Spawn. As for the place Nightwolf occupies in the MK universe a press release put out alongside the video describes him this way:
“Nightwolf, born as Grey Cloud, is a proud and fierce warrior dedicated to the cause of good and chosen by the Great Spirit to become the Matoka tribe’s champion and protector. Along with his signature tomahawk swing, Nightwolf possesses extraordinary magic that allows him to manifest weapons created from spirit energy to fight for the Matoka’s future and defend all of Earthrealm.”
Nightwolf is joining a cast of 24 launch characters and eight DLC characters that half of which have been announced so far. MK 11 was very well received at launch selling 1.8 million copies, breaking a series record for digital downloads and taking the top slot as the best selling game in April. More recently, in June, MK 11 passed Kingdom Hearts III as the number one selling game of 2019.
MK 11 has also been quickly accepted by the Fighting Game Community. The game will be one of the featured games at this year’s Evolution Championship Series (EVO) which is the biggest fighting game tournament of the year in terms of popularity.
