Nintendo has reportedly been looking at all the recent Switch 2 leaks and wants to announce the upcoming handheld console as soon as possible before further leaks reveal even more. We have already seen some prototypes of the upcoming console and even some of its internals, but the most recent leaks haven’t left much to the imagination.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is likely going to look like a larger version of the original console and with magnetic Joy-Con attachments and a new button.
But as for when Nintendo will make the reveal, we now have some good estimates. According to industry analyst Serkan Toto, the CEO of Kantan Games, Nintendo has run out of time to make the announcement, and it should be imminent.
The new deadline for the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 is the end of March 2025, but because of the leaks and the plummeting sales of the original Switch, Toto believes that the company won’t choose to wait until that date. Nintendo is, of course, aware of all the leaks, and quite unhappy about them. And so an announcement in January makes a lot of sense.
These leaks have forced Nintendo’s hand and will expedite the announcement process, quite a bit earlier than the Japanese company had originally planned. As for the release date of the Switch 2, although we don’t have anything concrete, it is expected to arrive in the latter half of 2025, and the first official reveal will be accompanied with the release date as well.
The Switch 1 came out in 2017 and, even at the time of release, it wasn’t that powerful compared to the technology of that time. Right now, it is really starting to show its age, and a successor has to come out fairly soon. The only games we know will be released on the new console is Metroid Prime 4, and a new Zelda game as well.
