Nintendo Switch has today gotten its 12.1.0 firmware update, so here’s everything that’s been changed and added with this update. 12.1.0 is fairly small, though does contain some interesting new things to be aware of. This is an especially good firmware update for those of you who max out the internal storage and microSD cards of your Nintendo Switch (you know who you are). Without further adieu, here’s everything new with firmware update 12.1.0!
Nintendo Switch Firmware Update 12.1.0 Patch Notes

- If there is not enough space remaining on the system memory (internal storage) or microSD card when downloading game software update data, you can now delete old data for that software, enabling you to download the new data.
- When deleting the old data, you won’t be able to play the game until the new data has finished downloading.
- General system stability improvements have been made to enhance the user’s experience.
A very small patch, though as said, those with little space on their Nintendo Switch should be happy about this update. Being able to update your games despite your drive being full (at least in some cases) means an easier time figuring out which games to uninstall. The stability improvements, while less noticeable, is a nice bonus as well.
It’s worth noting that firmware update 12.1.0 should install the next time you boot up your Nintendo Switch. In the rare occurrence that it doesn’t though, you aren’t out of luck. In this case, head to your Nintendo Switch’s settings and select System Update. And if that fails, restarting your console should suffice. And if, by some astronomically low chance, this doesn’t work, contact Nintendo Support.
The firmware update can be downloaded starting right now! And if you’d like more information regarding not only this update but other support notes, check out the official Nintendo Support page.
