Curious about the Nintendo Switch’s price point? So are we. Price is important for any product, especially for something as expensive as a console. The Playstation 3’s lofty price point of $499 USD left consumers reeling and bitter. Meanwhile, the Wii’s $249 USD price point led to its undeniable success, due to affordability. In the age of PS4 and Xbox One dominance, the Nintendo Switch’s price point will lead to its success – or its unfortunate fade into the background.
Thanks to Toys R Us Canada, we may have a glimpse into the potential cost of this intriguing new console. Briefly listing the Nintendo Switch’s price at $329.99 CAD, which is roughly the equivalent of £200 UK, $250 USD or $330 AUD. This is in line with a report by Lets Play Video Games, that Game (a UK games retailer), is expecting the console to cost around £199.99. This cheaper price point could allow the Nintendo Switch to compete with the wildly successful PS4 and Xbox One. It may also allow the Nintendo Switch the chance to capture the young family or casual gamer demographic, while Sony has proven with the PS4 Pro that they are aiming their products towards the hardcore Gamer looking for a premium product.
However, at this point we are still dealing with rumor and speculation and we will have to patiently wait for Nintendo to answer our questions. But with the cool price point of $60 USD for their NES mini, it isn’t outside the realm of belief for Nintendo to price the Switch so affordably.
