No Man’s Sky, the highly anticipated space exploration game, releases on August 9th. A new trailer, entitled “Explore,” showcases the diversity of the planets and wildlife you can encounter while playing and touts some of the insane numbers that have gotten people so interested in No Man’s Sky. Here’s the trailer:

Ther are a few things to unpack from the trailer. Judging from the beginning title card, three more trailers will be released in the coming weeks. These will highlight the other aspects of the game: “Fight,” “Trade,” and “Survive.” The big hype number in the trailer has been stated by the game developers before, but the promise of “18 quintillion planets” is one of the game’s main selling points. For those keeping track, the big numbers go million, billion, trillion, quadrillion, quintillion. Essentially, this huge number means that the universe of No Man’s Sky will never be fully explored. The trailer showcases a huge variety of worlds, and promises both “endless discovery” and “limitless variety.”

But there will be dinosaurs.
And there will be dinosaurs.

Gamers have eagerly anticipated No Man’s Sky for years, as the first teaser trailer was released in 2013. The game is obviously a massive universe, but the big question is this: “What can you do in that universe?” These trailers will hopefully answer that question as they are released. The developers have already stated that it is unlikely you will ever encounter another player while exploring No Man’s Sky, but it is possible. Hopefully, the game has enough depth to match its lofty scope. No Man’s Sky releases August 9th for PlayStation 4 and PC (but it was supposed to come out sooner!)

Excited to explore the massive universe of No Man’s Sky? Or are you hesitant that it can’t deliver on its lofty promises? Let us know in the comments below.
