Nolan North, known for his iconic character Nathan Drake, started his first Uncharted 2: Among Thieves playthrough on Monday alongside Troy Baker (The Last of Us, Uncharted 4) for their YouTube channel, Retro Replay.
Uncharted is one of the most famous and successful PlayStation exclusives and Nolan North has played the wise-cracking Nathan Drake across five games. North has always been a successful voice actor but Uncharted really put his career on the map. He has never played the games that cemented his career – until now.
North finished his first playthrough of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune in July, which proved to be a hugely popular segment of the comedy talk show. After a little break, the two voice actors dove into Uncharted 2 on Monday. What followed was interesting behind the scenes commentary, bad gameplay advice from Troy Baker, and a very lackluster Nathan Drake.
When North plays, Drake does not look like an expert treasure hunter, but that’s what makes the videos so fun. In fact, North sported a shirt with the words: “press circle for cover” so he can look down when he inevitably forgets the control scheme.
The episode also revealed some interesting facts about the game. First of all, filmmaker J.J. Abrams said the beginning of Uncharted 2 is his favorite opening for any piece of entertainment and that Jonathan Banks, who played Mike Ehrmantraut in Breaking Bad, tried out for the role of Zoran Lazarevic, the main bad guy. North also revealed that there is a secret joke scene that replaces Chloe Fraser with Lazarevic during an opening romantic scene with Drake. He said it is still out there somewhere, which may cause a real-life treasure hunt.
The two actors will release a new video every Monday until they finish the game. They also promised a The Last of Us playthrough but a date has not been revealed.
