A situation involving a North Carolina content creator is gaining traction online after a local cafe pushed back against her claims by releasing security footage that appears to tell a very different story.
The woman, who is known for reviewing local businesses like cafes and vendors in her area, had initially shared a now-deleted video on TikTok describing what she said was a disappointing experience at a cat cafe she visited with her two children.
In that video, she explained that she had taken her daughter to the cafe after hyping it up as a place where she could see animals and enjoy baked goods. While she admitted she hadn’t checked the rules beforehand, she said she was upset after being told that children were only allowed into the “special room” at certain times.
According to her, she asked staff if her daughter could briefly look inside just for a few minutes and take a video, even offering to pay, but they still refused to let her in. She claimed that when they were leaving and her child started “bawling her eyes out,” the staff did nothing but stand and stare. “She was really excited to see her favorite type of animal here,” the mom said in the video. “I just wanted to cry myself like it literally broke my heart.”
But that version of events quickly came into question.
The Footage Tells a Different Story
Following that video, the cafe, Brews and Mews Cat Cafe, released a clip from their security cameras showing what appeared to be the full interaction from different angles.
In the footage, the woman can be seen walking into the cafe with her children, and the atmosphere looks calm from the start. Her daughter seemed a bit upbeat and carefree while the child she is holding looked calm. At one point, the woman seems to be taking photos or videos around the space. She even strikes up a conversation with another customer and takes a photo of their drink after it’s served.
Her brief interaction at the counter with staff did not look tense or suggest she was agitated. There was no sign of a child crying uncontrollably as she had described when she was leaving with her kids. The employee she claimed was “standing there staring” can be seen in the video continuing with his work shortly after, even walking into the “special room” to assist another customer.
In the caption accompanying the footage, the cafe wrote, “Imagine trying to go out into the wild as an ‘influencer’ and get upset because you did zero research and somehow making it the business fault when they won’t bend the rules for you.” They also added, “All she had to do was literally wait 1 day and the kids could have enjoyed the room.”
Netizens React to the North Carolina Situation
On TikTok, many people sided with the cafe, especially after seeing the footage. “Why did influencers ever become a thing…. People need to find better things to do,” one person wrote. Someone else added, “This online culture and entitlement is insane in today’s time.”
Some praised the business for responding with clear evidence. “Came with receipts from every angle,” one comment read, while another said, “I’m glad you stood up for yourself. This place looks awesome!”
Others suggested that the cafe should sue, writing, “I think you should take her to court for defamation of character,” and “Please sue for defamation so you may have the funds to help more cats 🥰🥰🥰🥰.”
The TikToker Put Out An Apology Video
Following the backlash, the North Carolina woman later shared a response addressing the situation and the criticism she received. She acknowledged that posting the video was a mistake and apologized for putting it out.
According to her, she was feeling overwhelmed at the time while managing both children, which may have affected how she perceived the situation. She maintained that she did not intend to lie and said she was simply sharing her perspective. “I’m not proud that I put anything out that cannot be seen in a positive light,” she said. “That’s not who I wanna be. So I’m gonna do the best I can and I’m gonna move forward.”
