North Carolina Red Roof Inn Employee Makes Assumption About Prospective Guest, She Claims She’s Being Profiled, ‘Our Systems Are Clogged for NON Emergencies Like These’

She really knew how to keep it going

Hotels sometimes have policies that prohibit local citizens from using their services. They do this to reduce the disruption to overall peace caused by parties, as well as to deter illegal activity. Some hotel systems allow locals to stay for an additional fee, but it’s ultimately up to the hotel. One North Carolina woman recently attempted to stay at a Red Roof Inn because of an emergency at her home. The process was not so cut and dry – and she suspects it was due to being profiled.

TikToker @plushpal1977 says that she was denied a stay at a North Wilkesboro, North Carolina Red Roof Inn with her 14-year-old son. They had to, unfortunately, stay in a hotel or motel that night after an emergency at their home. However, she stated that the front desk employee noticed she was wearing a North Carolina shirt and automatically assumed she was a local. Instead of checking her identification, he told her she would be charged an additional fee for staying there.

@plushpal1977

Last night at the Red Roof Inn in North Wilkesboro, NC, my 14-year-old son and I were seeking a place to stay urgently for the night. We were displaced due to unforeseen circumstances and needed temporary lodging while working through our situation. During the check-in attempt, I was seated due to a knee issue when I asked the night desk employee how he knew I was a local guest since my identification had not been checked. I was not arguing about policy — I simply asked a question. The employee became hostile, raised his voice, and made a statement that I perceived as a physical threat when he said he could “come from behind the counter.” My child briefly entered the building only to dial 911 because I was recording the interaction, then returned to the car to stay in a safer environment. Police officers responded to the scene. Despite the employee’s hostile behavior, I was told I was banned from the property and was forced to leave late at night and find alternative lodging. I am sharing this because no guest traveling with a child should feel threatened or unsafe while urgently seeking lodging for the night. #redroofinn #hotel #profiling @red roof inn

This TikToker challenged the front desk worker for making an assumption about her North Carolina shirt. She fought with him about it, demanding that he check her ID instead of assuming she’s local. Instead of looking, he responded with, “Get off the property” and tried to end the conversation there. As she says, the employee “became hostile” with her. In the video, he tells her he could “come from behind the counter” to deal with her.

In the video, the front desk worker keeps telling her to leave the property. She tells her she’s going to call the cops, and he replies, “Do whatever you want! You are insane!” You can tell that he’s completely removed from the situation and doesn’t want to deal with it anymore. She threatens him with, “You won’t have a jo,b” but he doesn’t seem to take her words to heart.

According to Plush’s caption, her son entered the building at some point to call 911 due to the confrontation. She goes on to say that the man profiled her and “banned from the property.” In the end, they were “forced to leave late at night and find alternative lodging.”

Commenters told Plush that she went too far by involving the police. One commenter pointed out, “You’re using 911 emergency for a NON emergency! Over someone being rude. Call the manager or corporate and keep a movin! Our systems are clogged for NON emergencies like these.” Another commenter said,“If he ask you to leave then just leave.”
