Over the years, reports of stealing at Walmart have significantly increased. As groceries and household items become more difficult to afford, it’s no wonder. But what happens if you’re accused of theft or somebody repeatedly treats you like a criminal even though you’ve done nothing wrong? You can imagine you would probably be left feeling pretty upset. This is what happens when a North Carolina woman is repeatedly accused of theft by the same Walmart worker. Finally, she decides to say something after multiple accusations.
Liz (@lizzaay90) claims that the same Karen cashier accuses her of stealing every time she visits Walmart. She claims, “I spend hundreds every week and every week I have to go through this crap with her!” In the video, you can see the elderly Karen worker scanning Liz’s items at the self-checkout. Liz tells her, “Naw, I did that” because she already scanned the item. Now, the Karen is re-scanning the item because she apparently doesn’t believe her.
Liz, annoyed, steps in and tells the Karen worker, “It’s right there.” She points to the item she already scanned. She then tells the worker, “You added $2.87 to my order. I ain’t stealing anything. This is ridiculous.” She continues, “I’ll never shop here again” as the Karen continues scanning things that were already scanned.
As Liz explains to the Karen that she’s getting “super frustrated” with her act, the Karen tries to explain that she just had to check. Apparently, the camera set something off in the system and this is a problem that happens frequently, prompting her into action. Either way, it’s incredibly frustrating to be accused of theft when you haven’t done anything wrong. It’s even more infuriating to know that items are being added to your order that have already been scanned. How do you know they aren’t scamming you out of more money? Walmart clearly doesn’t need it. As Liz says at the end of her video, “This is harassment at this point. Ya’ll ain’t getting no more of my money.”
One commenter stated, “I would have walked away and left everything there.” Another suggested, “If they are gonna accuse people. They need to bring back regular cashiers and get rid of self-checkout. Or leave us be… Like we are literally unpaid cashiers.” Unfortunately, it seems like more automation is in the works at major chain grocery stores. If they could do away with cashiers completely, something tells me they would.
