North Carolina Woman Does the Unthinkable and Quits Job Without Backup Plan, ‘At a certain point if you’re not happy the money means virtually nothing’

Money isn’t everything

You could make millions of dollars and still be unhappy; in fact, it seems about as corrupting as the One Ring. As one woman in North Carolina says, “I refuse to believe I have to be miserable to see success.” She decided she wasn’t going to stay in a position that paid her a lot but made her feel miserable. The steps she took are not what many others would do, but it turns out, it was the best decision for her.

“Blowing up my life at 24 – quitting corporate with no backup,” said the caption of Brownie’s TikTok video. Given the state of the U.S. economy, this sounds insane. But when it comes to your happiness, sometimes that has to come before everything else. As Brownie explains, it wasn’t an easy decision because her job paid her $90,000 a year to be an auditor. She said it was the “most money I’ve ever made in my life” and it was stable. What good is that if you’re miserable all the time?

Brownie realized she was living her “worst case scenario.” She points out that she’s 24, living at home with her parents, and she’s away from everybody important in her life. She said she doesn’t even like the job, and now they’re requiring her to be in the office five days a week when it used to be four. It’s astonishing how common it is for businesses to take advantage of an employee’s time, especially when they’re a hard worker.

“If I don’t blow up my life right now, I fear I’m going to blow it up at 30,” Brownie admits. You really need to question where you’re at in every point of your life, and especially question if you’re happy. What does it matter if you’re 20 or 50 when you realize that a job isn’t for you? Brownie said her next steps are to be happy. She plans on returning to New York and living with her friends. She wants to be in the city and see the people she loves more often instead of feeling stuck. “I can do this,” Brownie says.

Though many commenters begged her to reconsider because the job market is not great at this time, others encouraged her to find her happiness. “And this is why people gatekeep their salaries because this comment section is reallll jealous rn. At a certain point if you’re not happy the money means virtually nothing,” said one commenter stated. Another person encouraged her, “Lol I blew up my life at 41. You’ll be fine. Good luck!” Hopefully, Brownie finds her peace because we all deserve it!
