Many people believe that their ways and methods are the best and that others should be like them, which also applies to parenting. Many parents try their best for their children regarding health, education, and discipline. However, some think they are superior and judge other parents. For example, all these people were in the comments of a TikTok mom shaming an NYC mother influencer who was having a rough morning with her two-year-old daughter who knocked over a bowl of cereal. This video shows how many people are against gentle parenting and believe that punishing their children will make them behave better.
It all happened because of a TikTok by nurka.lucevic, who shares her lifestyle and parenting tips as a mother of four. The video centers on an incident where this NYC mom influencer prepares a couple of bowls of cereal, but her youngest daughter — upset about not having the same amount of cereal as her brother — throws her breakfast on the floor. This causes the bowl to break into pieces all over the kitchen, along with her portion of cereal. Nurka’s face shows how surprised and shocked she was, but instead of scolding or yelling at her daughter, she tells her to go away. So Nurka cleaned up to hurry through the rest of her children’s routine to take them to school on time.
Gentle parenting doesn’t work. Here the proof.

There were many negative comments like this one, saying that the influencer should have scolded her daughter, left her without food, used a belt, or used other kinds of physical punishments. Fortunately, other comments said that physical punishments are abusive and don’t work, in addition to some supporting Nurka’s more understanding parenting technique.
To the comments: THIS IS GENTLE PARENTING push cereal on the floor, no cereal. You didn’t let her starve, didn’t force her to pick up glass and didn’t give her a reaction (that could enforce the behavior). Some of these comments are highkey abusive.

Nurka’s justification was that she thought her daughter was too young to put herself at risk by picking up the glass pieces. Also, this mom didn’t give any more cereal, and only after returning home, just over half an hour later, she gave her little girl something else for breakfast.
