A figure in a Trump mask joined the protest against Elon Musk at the Tesla showroom in NYC earlier this week. Protests at Tesla’s New York site have been ongoing for weeks with no signs of stopping. Earlier this month, they also resulted in at least six arrests, as the cops protected property over people as usual. Hundreds have disrupted the Manhattan showroom previously, with the number of demonstrators fluctuating over time but never dying off. NYC isn’t a monolith, and there are plenty of different opinions. That said, it’s obvious that many New Yorkers have had enough of America’s wannabe kings.
Protestor in Trump Mask Joins NYC Demonstration
With demonstrations and protests becoming more common, New York is getting a taste of resistance in all its flavors. While one Tesla protestor donned a ghoulish orange Trump mask, complete with windblown hair, others carried signs and shouted. “Elon Is A DOGE-Bag,” read one sign, calling out Musk for gutting federal programs. The so-called Department of Government Efficiency has been weaponized against everything from the VA and cancer research funding to public parks. Elon might not understand the harm he’s done, but New York does.
A TikTok by mikeywoodyz about the Tesla protest received a variety of supportive comments. “Love the vibes! 💙💙💙💙FDT and his robot bestie,” said one commenter. Another praised the protestors and others speaking out against Musk and Trump, saying,
“YOU THE PEOPLE HAVE RISEN” YOUR VOICES ARE BEING HEARD AROUND THE WORLD, KEEP GOING KEEP FIGHTING, YOU BROUGHT ELON DOWN [Sic]
It’s true that Tesla stock has plummeted in value. That’s not only because of DOGE but also because of Musk’s open embrace of Nazism. Still, as long as Musk wields influence in the U.S., it’s hard to say he’s been brought down. While there may be a long road ahead for the anti-fascist resistance in NYC, it looks like the Tesla showroom will be getting continual reminders of how many New Yorkers feel.
