At New York Comic-Con, fans got an exclusive sneak peek into season two of Netflix and Marvel’s Daredevil.
Attendees watched teaser footage from the series’ sophomore season, featuring Daredevil’s sai-wielding love interest Elektra (Elodie Yung) and his rival Punisher (Jon Bernthal). By introducing these two well-known heroes from the ever-expanding Marvel universe, showrunners are looking to move the series into a darker direction. Elektra and Punisher will be a welcomed addition to Daredevil, a show considered by many to be a gritty departure from family-friendly fare.
“We love two things, and one of them is Matt Murdock,” Daredevil executive producer Doug Petrie told the Hollywood Reporter. “With the Punisher and Elektra, we get to take it darker and further. … The stuff you want to see, we want to see, and we can’t wait to show it to you.”
Currently, Marvel has no plans to release the footage online.
Few characters from the first season will be returning. Rosario Dawson has been confirmed to reprise her role as Claire Temple, a nurse who regularly patches up the “Man with No Fear.” Scott Glenn will be returning as Daredevil’s mysterious mentor Stick. Drew Goddard will remain on board as a consultant. Marco Rodriguez and Doug Petrie have replaced Goddard and Steven DeKnight as showrunners.
Daredevil‘s second season will premiere in 2016.
