Being a mom is one of the most challenging jobs in the world. It’s demanding, intense, and puts an unparalleled strain on you. Alternatively, it’s also considered one of the most rewarding jobs. As you watch your children grow, you are often forced to make difficult decisions. In a situation where parents have different opinions, New York City influencer Nika Diwa is praised for making a tough call.
“Sleepovers here mean the girls sleep with me,” Siwa says in a caption on one of her recent videos. “Just how I choose to keep them safe.” In the video, Diwa is ready for bed. As the camera pans, it shows girls sleeping on the floor during a sleepover. In the TikTok caption, Diwa explains more.
“My husband and I made this rule (he stays in the guest room) esp when we have a full house hosting holiday parties. This auntie is taking no chances!!” She writes. The video plays to the tune of Paris Paloma’s “LABOUR,” which has become a popular women’s rights anthem. The message is clear: Diwa is committed to protecting not only her own kids, but also those who spend the night under her roof.
Followers of Diwa are praising her and her husband for the decision. “Not only does this benefit the girls by keeping them safe, it prevents him from accusations, BUT it also encourages the girls to stick with sleeping in and around safe women in other scenarios/ other people’s homes as well. It sets the norm. I love this,” says one TikTok user. Another supports her choice, adding, “For the ppl saying ‘keep them safe from who’ I’m glad you’ve never had to wonder about any other possibilities. Us that ‘know’ understand this all too well.”
Some followers also applaud the choice to have Diwa’s husband sleep in the guest room. “Even if you trust that man, this sets a good precedent for the girls to know that they are safe and any other behavior really shouldn’t be tolerated,” one person says. ” The video is even inspiring other moms to follow suit, “I am making this a rule too!!! Thank you for sharing! “Never thought about this,” says one TikTok user.
