Wendy Williams has been undergoing various mental and emotional troubles over the last several years. Most recently, she’s been hospitalized while undergoing various treatment plans for issues including memory loss, drug abuse, and more. However, things took a turn when Williams was the subject of a welfare check by the NYPD, who had to send her to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
The welfare check happened as a result of a note that Williams had thrown out the fifth-floor window of the Midtown Manhattan assisted living facility she is staying at. The note was revealed to read, “Help! Wendy!” She was then swiftly taken to Mount Sinai West hospital, where she is currently.
It’s not a secret that Wendy Williams’ health is declining, as shown in the February 2024 documentary detailing her life and health battles. In the documentary, it was revealed that she was diagnosed with both progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Since being placed in the facility under a court-appointed order since 2022, she has stated that she’s under close supervision and has no privacy outside of when she is asleep or using the restroom. She views this as inhumane and an invasion of her privacy as opposed to being the consequence of her declining health.
Unfortunately, that is why she continues to be monitored as closely as she has been. After it was determined that Williams was safe from harm, the NYPD made a statement concerning the entire situation.
“On Monday, March 10, 2025 the NYPD responded to a welfare check at 505 West 35 Street. EMS responded and transported a 60-year-old female to an area hospital for evaluation.”
Considering how dementia can affect behavioral patterns, I can understand why she might have mistaken the help she’s being offered as something else. Hopefully, she continues to get the help she needs and is able to return to the public eye before long.
