Marvel is teasing its upcoming NYX series with information on what the comic will focus on and the creative team behind it. For the past couple of weeks, Marvel has been slowly revealing what the new era of X-Men will look like. Officially dubbed From the Ashes, this new age of mutants is led by a trio of series that takes different teams into the unknown. It also features a few off-shoot series, including NYX. This new series comes from the writing duo of Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing, alongside artist Francesco Mortarino. Together, this creative team will take a group of former X-Men into the wild streets of New York City.

NYX is going to delve deep into the hardships that face these mutants. They go from the safe harbor of Krakoa back to a world filled with bigotry, mistrust, hatred, and fear. However, these mutants will use their time away from the guidance of the X-Men and the safety of Krakoa to evolve. Though, letting go of the past may be harder than some of them expect.

Taking focus in this new series is new mutant Ms. Marvel. She is embracing her new life as a mutant on the Lower East Side. Also in the spotlight is Anole as he tries to keep his head above water and Wolverine trying to protect her own in Bushwick. Then there is Prodigy working to write history as it is happening and Sophie Cuckoo on a journey of self-discovery.

The Creator’s Take

Writers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing call NYX the type of series they came to Marvel to make. Especially stories that showcase the tense place where the mundane and mutants collide. Kelly shares that Ms. Marvel is a great embodiment of that and a great gateway into a story about growing into yourself. Lanzing added that they feel as if they have grown alongside Sophie, Anole, and Prodigy. So, the opportunity to explore them is a wonderful full-circle moment, especially in this new From the Ashes age, which brings new territory to the X-Men.

NYX #1 is on sale 07/24
