As games continue to push the boundaries of realism, it’s no surprise that many AAA titles are boasting increasingly massive storage requirements. The upcoming Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake is no exception. Recent leaks suggest that the game will require a hefty 120GB of free space, a substantial leap compared to the original’s modest 4-5GB size. While this significant increase can be attributed to the game’s enhanced visuals, thanks to the use of modern technology, there has been no official confirmation from Bethesda. However, some sources claim that Virtuos, the developer handling the remake, is utilizing Unreal Engine 5 to bring Oblivion into the modern era.

The Oblivion Remake won’t just be a visual overhaul; it’s also set to include several gameplay reworks aimed at modernizing the experience. According to multiple leaks, one of the key areas Bethesda focused on improving is the blocking mechanic. Players can expect a smoother, more responsive blocking system, inspired by popular Souls-like and action games. Along with this rework, the stamina system is getting a much-needed update, addressing the frustrations players faced with the original mechanics.

Other improvements packed into this hefty 120GB file size include a complete overhaul of the HUD. Bethesda and Virtuos are aiming to make the interface more intuitive, ensuring new players won’t feel overwhelmed during the early stages of the game. Additionally, archery and hit reactions are being fine-tuned, providing a more satisfying and immersive combat experience. These changes should make the game more accessible while enhancing the overall enjoyment of gameplay.

This massive file size isn’t just about visual and combat improvements. Some leaks suggest the game will include DLC content from the original, extending the gameplay length and offering even more to explore. Another exciting tidbit for fans is that the Oblivion Remake will be available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. PC players will be able to enjoy the game on both Steam and Game Pass from launch, making it easily accessible to a wide audience.

As expected, the sheer size of the Oblivion Remake has left many players feeling intimidated. However, there are also those eagerly anticipating the improvements developers will bring to this revamped version of their beloved game. “26 times the detail,” one Redditor remarked, referring to Todd Howard’s comment during Fallout 76‘s reveal.

Others found it amusing that fans will get the Oblivion Remake first, instead of the much-anticipated Elder Scrolls VI, which many have been eagerly waiting for. Unfortunately, there’s no major news yet on this highly anticipated title, leaving players to console themselves with the remake for now.
