The legal battle between Odell Beckham Jr and Nike is officially over. Recall that in November 2022, Odell Beckham Jr filed a lawsuit against Nike worth over $100 billion. In the documents, the NFL star claimed the sportswear brand owed him at least $20 million in back salary and guaranteed royalties. According to the wide receiver, Nike intentionally suppressed shoe sales to avoid extending his contract. However, Nike countersued, claiming the 31-year-old violated the terms of his contract. According to them, the customization Beckham Jr. made to Nike-branded gloves was a breach of contract. So, Beckham Jr and Nike engaged in a heated courtroom showdown for the next couple of months.
However, after a few hours of deliberation, a Multnomah County Circuit Court jury finally decided on Thursday. The jury ruled that neither Odell Beckham Jr nor Nike breached their contracts. In addition, no damages were found, and neither party received any monetary rewards. Following the decision, a Nike representative released a statement to Complex.
“With this verdict, all of Mr. Beckham’s claims have been decided against him without any monetary award. The decision confirmed that Nike complied with its commitments. Nike is grateful to the jury and the Court for their careful attention to this case,” they said
Although Beckham Jr won’t receive any money in damages, the NFL star will be getting the $20 million that Nike owes him. On Thursday, he took to his Instagram page to celebrate the win. Beckham Jr shared a picture of him and his legal team alongside a caption expressing relief. In the heartfelt write-up, he asked Nike to do the right thing. “JUST DO……RIGHT @nike,” he wrote. Odell Beckham Jr proceeded to thank God and his legal team for the lawsuit victory. The Miami Dolphins star didn’t appreciate the jury’s decision. “I wanna thank the jury for simply doing what’s right in a world full of wrong,” he noted. Above all, Beckham Jr encouraged fans to fight for what they believed in and get justice like he did.
